What each service covers
Pacific Pond and Aquarium builds and looks after ponds, waterfalls, fountains and aquariums across the San Fernando Valley and the cities around it, from Calabasas and Encino to Beverly Hills, Pasadena and Santa Clarita. The crew that digs a new koi pond is the crew that comes back to clean the filter, check the pump and keep the fish healthy. Andrew runs the crew and answers the phone, and the company holds CSLB License #1142677, classification C-27. Here is what each service covers and when you would call for it.
Pond design and construction
A new pond starts with a conversation about the yard, the fish you want and how much upkeep you are willing to do. From there we design and build koi ponds, ecosystem ponds, streams and pondless waterfalls, with the filtration sized to the fish load so the water stays clear without a weekly fight. As a pond contractor we manage the job from the dig to the first water, including the plumbing and pumps that are part of the feature. Pond maintenance
Most of our clients are on a standing pond maintenance plan, with a visit every one to four weeks depending on the season and the fish load. A routine visit covers filter backwashing and cleaning, debris skimming, algae control, water treatments and a pump check, and runs $80 to $150 depending on the pond. Koi pond maintenance also means watching the fish: we check appetite, color and behavior on every visit, because the fish often show a problem before a water test does. We care for koi ponds, goldfish ponds, ecosystem ponds and larger landscape ponds at homes, apartment communities and commercial properties.
Pond clean outs
A full pond clean out is the reset for a pond that has gone green, built up sludge or lost its flow. We drain the pond down, hold the fish safely, remove the sludge, leaves and algae from the bottom and the filtration, clean the skimmer and filter, then refill and settle the fish back in. Spring is the busy season for pond cleaning across the Valley, so a March or April booking is wise, but we clean ponds year-round. Pond repair
When a pond stops behaving, the cause is usually one of a few things: a pump that has lost its flow, a skimmer or biofilter that is clogged or cracked, a liner that has shifted, or plumbing that was never sized right. Pond pump repair and replacement is the most common call we get. We also repair and replace liners, skimmers, filters and waterfall plumbing, and we inspect the whole system before recommending anything, so you pay to fix the cause and not the symptom. A standard service call is $375 and includes the first hour on site.
Fountain service
Fountain repair is its own trade. Estate and commercial fountains in Beverly Hills, Pasadena and across the Valley run on pumps, motors, plumbing, tile and controllers, and we service all of it: pump and motor replacement, plumbing and basin repair, tile work, and scheduled fountain cleaning that keeps calcium and algae off the stone. We also take on one-time fountain clean outs and water feature repair for property managers who need a fountain running again before the weekend.
Aquarium service
Aquarium maintenance for homes, offices, lobbies and waiting rooms, on a calendar. We service reef and freshwater tanks: water changes, testing and correction of pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, filter and lighting checks, cleaning of the glass and decor, and a look at every fish for early signs of trouble. We also set up new aquariums and can take on a tank that another aquarium cleaning service gave up on.
