From Algae Bloom to Clear Water - Pond Filtration Upgrade

Green water is one of the most common calls we get. When a pond turns that bright, pea-soup green, it's almost always a sign that algae has completely taken over - and that usually points to one root cause: the filtration system isn't keeping up with the nutrient load in the water.

That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The pond had a serious algae bloom, and the existing setup just wasn't cutting it. So we upgraded the filtration with a bead filter - a pressurized system that mechanically and biologically filters the water far more efficiently than older-style filter setups. Bead filters are especially effective in fish ponds because they handle the waste load that koi and goldfish produce without constantly clogging up.

We also added aquatic plants to the mix. That part matters more than people realize. Plants like water hyacinth absorb excess nutrients directly from the water - the same nutrients that feed algae. It's not a cosmetic touch. It's a functional part of the ecosystem that helps keep everything balanced long-term.

The difference between where this pond started and where it ended up says a lot about what proper pond maintenance can actually do. The fish are visible, active, and clearly healthier. The water went from completely opaque to something you can actually see through. That's what happens when you fix the system instead of just treating the symptoms.
